Imperial Assassins - WIP

Hello one and All,

I'm finding at the moment my hobby time is getting less due to other commitments, however I did find some time to build an execution force of assassins. These are from the box set of the same name, I wasn't going to use these, however having seen the difference in size of these to the original ones I have and their details, I thought I had to get them done, and added to my force!
I will be painting these all the same scheme, to tie into them being an '(x)force' (there might be a clue to the colours there)
I will be painting these in sub sections with the base separate to the body, and any parts that will be in the way removed (I'm looking at you Vindicare sniper rifle.) The scheme should be straightforward, with a red base coat over a black undercoat, further black details and then washes/highlights etc. With then the eyes picked out in white.
Cheers for looking! LH

Battle - Blood Angels Vs Necrons - 1750pts - Blitz Scenario

Hi all, thanks for dropping by, I had a great narrative driven battle from the BRB, Blitz Scenario and thought I'd share some of the pictures and highlights. Not a Battle Report per se, they take ages to do and capture during the battle so rather than capture every move and what died etc. we just had fun and tried to remember to take a few photos along the way.

Above you can see the terrain set up, I did this envisaging an Imperial City and the borderlands, without rolling or deciding the mission first - by chance when my opponent arrived he suggested something along those lines and I looked in the BRB and found the Blitz scenario - one attacker, one defender, attacker won VPs if units were in the two Defender Deployment Zones, 1 VP for the Bunkers area, 2VPs each for the City zone. The Defender got a VP for every unit destroyed and Sustained Assault rules were in force - this suited our two sides, endless Necron Legion, Blood Angels defending the city...
The Necron force started in the desert, in the first 18in zone, then there was a 18in buffer I had to cross before getting to the Blood Angels front line. The Blood Angels would have to be cut down and win through attrition.
The Blood Angels had half their units in the foremost deployment zone, Death Company, Lemartes, Scouts and Reivers. In the city there was a BA castle, characters, two Relic Scorpius, Hellblasters and Ancient and Sanguinary Priest - lots of re-rolls, feel no pains and healing. The game opened up with a preliminary bombardment (1CP to make on targeted unit be hit on a 4+, the rest on 6+), the only unit to be hit was the Hellblasters atop the Imperial Sanctuary at the rear, on the 4+ dealing 3 mortal wounds due to 1CP spent on a stratagem to give dug in and half the potential damage from D6 to D3, killing one Hellblaster.
The turn one casualties were mainly the Reivers and Scout Squads, the Blood Angels killed two whole squads of Destroyers with effective Hellblaster and Scorpius fire. (BA 2VPs)
In Turn two the Necrons closed the bastion taking down a few Death Company and moved towards the scoring zone, more Scouts died. The Blood Angels hit back, Scorpius was really deleting two units a turn, at first we thought it would be an easy Necron win but as time went on and the castle was unopposed it looked like a close call. The Blood Angels killed more Destroyers and Destroyer Lord before Lemartes and Death Company charged into the Warriors - more dying to massed Gauss overwatch but Death Company hit hard and many warriors fell. (BA 4VPs)
Here the Necrons can be seen on the relentless advance towards the city frontline. The Warriors in battle with Lemartes fall back and Lemartes and the Death Company are cut down (retires from the field...)
The Blood Angel castle, uncharacteristic for blood thirsty vampires, stayed back and poured fire into the advancing constructs.
The sustained assault dice were kind to the Destroyers, both squads coming back on a 4+, which would be great as they move fast and will still be able to move up the 36in to the frontline. (BA 4VPs)
In Turn three the Necrons moved ever closer, one swarm of Canoptek Scarabs scuttled up the board edge into the rear of the Blood Angel lines, if they reached the city at the end of the battle it would be 2VPs. The Destroyers at the rear advanced as far as they could.
The Warriors making it to the front lines were subjected to withering fire, thinning their numbers but hopefully reanimation protocols will replenish the numbers.
Necron Heavy Gauss cannon several times sniped at Hellblasters, but Feel No Pain and the Sanguinary Priest meant I found it hard to reduce the numbers, I think during the battle the same hellblaster fell and rose again 3 times!
The Scorpius' were exacting a heavy toll on the advancing Necrons, wiping out most of a large Warriors squad but the Legion continued to close... (BA 4VPs)
In Turn four, the implacable advance continued under the guns of the Blood Angels, more Necron Units reached the Imperial lines, the Scarabs having been wiped out in combat by the last remaining Reiver sped up the board and were eliminated by exacting Scorpius fire. One remaining Scarab base that was in the BA deployment area reached the relative safety of the ruins - only the Scorpius could reach out and remove but they had choicer targets for now.
The Blood Angels holdfast in the Imperial Sanctuary, exacting a revenge for the fallen Scouts, felling the Warriors Squad and the Destroyer Lord. (BA 6VPs)
In Turn Five, the Necron hordes reached the lines and spilled over the fortifications, including 2 single Scarab bases, the furthest base in the ruins giving 2VPs, if the game ends now the Necrons have 10VPs...
The Blood Angels open fire for Turn Five, Hellblaster fire takes a few automatons down but each Scorpius puts its cross hairs on the Scarab bases and easily (3D3 but if stationary 6D3 shots S6) wiping out the 2VP base in the ruins and another base at the Tank Traps... leaving 8 Necron Units in the first Deployment Zone. (BA 8VPs, Necrons 8VPs if the game ends)...

We roll for game end and roll a two - its a draw! That was a great game we both really enjoyed. The Blood Angel castle with two Scorpius is a deadly combo, but now with more ideas of how to counter it, I think I will have to get painting some more Wraiths and some deepstriking units to breach the castle!

I hope you enjoyed the report and pictures. Cheers, Siph.

Dreadtober Week 1 Progress - Siph's Eddy and Fury Dreadnoughts

Hello Dreadtober-teers and all, some mighty fine progress made this week. I've completed both bases with the exception of tufts of grass, basecoated the Dreadnoughts and weapon arms and carried out some conversion work.
What's Dreadtober? Well, Dreadtober is an annual event held over the month of October where hobbyists pledge to do a dreadnought-sized model from the to-do pile and get it finished and hopefully completing 31st Oct (Halloween/All Hallows Eve/Brexit?) with lots of progress shots and encouragement along the way :) Check out the Dreadtober Blog, click the banner in the sidebar >>>>
Eddy has some clean up work now I have seen that mould line right down his face, not so noticeable in most lights, but I'll have a go at some clean up. I masked his base as I foolishly had some Epoxy Resin glue spare after construction so glued him to the base early...
Some minor conversions to stop me having to refer to the RT era line drawings to figure out what weapon was what, so I removed the 'nipple' from the Las Cannon, and now have two distinguishing Lascannon muzzles with the sloped frontal plate characteristic of Las weaponry to easily identify them.
And the Missile Launcher got some spare Missiles on a rack magazine/feeder on the outside to distinguish it as a Missile Launcher. The Storm Bolter on the Dreadnought Close Combat Arm is easy enough to be recognisable.

On track for the finish line. Cheers, Siph.

Dreadtober 2019 - Lord Halfpenny's Project - Deathwatch Dreadnoughts

Hello one and all!

With the dawn of October, it means for hobbyist one thing... Dreadtober.

I am going to try and complete two Dreadnoughts which are sat on my work bench. The dreadnoughts have  had an undercoat of black and silver using a spray cans. One of these dreadnoughts is the Venerable Dreadnought, the other is the same kit with a few additions from a Space Wolves Dreadnought kit I bought for the base of my Magnus model.

Both are armed with a Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon fist, with the Space Wolves Dreadnought having a twin Lascannon, and the other a Plasma Cannon.
The models will be done in the same style as my deathwatch Falchion super heavy tank, which needs finishing up too...

Siph has pledged two Dreadnoughts too, check out his old school cool Metal Space Marine Dreadnoughts.

Thanks for looking! Cheers, Lord Halfpenny.

Genestealer Cult - Magus Psyker HQ Character

Hello all, thanks for dropping by. Dreadtober has started but I still wanted to post something I'd painted recently, it will be a while before Eddy and Fury Dreadtober Dreadnoughts are completed.

This is the first of my Genestealer Cult HQ choices as I prepare to get a force on the table. A useful HQ Character being a Psyker, and a reasonable price points wise.
I washed the skin Kislev Flesh with Hormagaunt Purple wash to look more alien, and a little Reikland Flesh shade then layered on Kislev Flesh to brighten it back up.
The robes were Mephiston Red washed Agrax and then highlighted Evil Sunz Red to reflect the fact that this cult has grown from the infected populace from a tendril of Hivefleet Kraken.
The gemstones and vials were coated with 'Ardcoat to keep the glass like appearance after the matt varnish.
Rather pleased with myself, I like the face and I am glad I kept the eyes black and soulless, saves doing the whites - but gives it an alien evil look. Cheers for having a look-see, Thanks, Siph. (10pts Character)

Dreadtober 2019 - Siph's Project - Space Marine Original Metal Dreadnoughts

Hello Dreadtober-teers! My favourite hobby event of the calendar year is back again for another installment, feel free to click on the sidebar picture for a link to the main Dreadtober site, this year being run by Joel (Mordian7th) so a massive thanks to him for keeping the hobby event alive for another year! And thanks to the founder Greggles, and Joe B and Todd (Sincain40K) for their contributions too.

Dreadtober is an annual event held over the month of October where hobbyists pledge to do a dreadnought-sized model from the to-do pile and get it finished, starting 1st Oct (tomorrow) and hopefully completing 31st Oct (Halloween/All Hallows Eve/Brexit?) with lots of progress shots and encouragement along the way :)

So, this year I am doubling up my efforts and producing two Dreadtober Dreadnoughts, well I thought they are quite small so two should be good - I have two metal Dreadnoughts from back-in-the-day I have been lucky enough to be able to find and purchase with Dreadtober in mind, stripped and deconstructed (oh enamel paints...) and ready for the starting Bolt Pistol tomorrow.
Cleaned up and smelling of Dettol
Okay, not quite an "Eddy" Deredeo Class as he has a Lascannon Arm and DCCW but that's his name now.
Furibundus "Fury" Class with Missile Launcher and Las Cannon

Meet Eddy and Fury (Deredeo and Furibundus) twins who will be joining the Relictor ranks this Halloween all being well. Good luck fellow Dreadtober-teers and wish me luck, Cheers, Siph.

Marneus Calgar Primaris Conversion WIP #3

Hello one and all,

I've started putting together options for Calgar, the next task for next week is to build the ammo feeds from Marneus Calgar's back to the Bolters, I am not sure yet if this will involve the old pieces or another option, TBC.
At the moment I have added a banner to Marneus Calgar - this is an old Blood Angels one, can't recall the kit of the top of my head. I bought this as a single piece on an auction site years ago. I will be removing the tear drop from the banner and replacing it with a suitable Ultramarine 'U' or a skull. The banner will have a similar design as the 2nd generation Marneus Calgar model, either painted or added as a decal.
The model will be added to a scenic base (which model is this from? add your answers in the comment and I'll let you know next week). The base is slightly bigger than the base the stock model comes with. My plan is to colour the base two tones to signify the actual edge of the normal base - in case there are any in game issues with base size etc. I will also be adding a few more skulls to the base.
Really happy with how the model is progressing! Cheers, Lord Halfpenny.

Relictors Space Marine 4th Company - Devastator Squad w/ Lascannons

Hello All, thanks for dropping in. It was about time I continued with some of my Space Marine to-do list as it is a long one (just check out the to-do list!) and I have had part built Devastator Squads sitting on my desk to complete since 7th...oh my, two years ago. I managed a squad of Grav Cannon Devastators when they were good, okay OP, now just good. HERE. Now I thought it was time to do some of the other weapons as I had bought 4 boxes to get all the Grav Cannons!
As I had long ago exhausted the ranks of my 5th Company with two full 10 man squads of Devastators already, my expanding forces are made up of the 4th Company, hence the green Company colour trims on his pauldrons. Lascannon Devastators will be sitting back killing tanks from afar, so a basic armed Sergeant with Bolter and Signum - requisite pointy arm - "Kill that there!"
The kneeling support Lascannons, usually associated with Missile Launchers due to the set of legs that came in the old Tactical Squad box, but it makes sense to brace for an accurate shot from distance, the newest Devastator Squad set comes with a set of kneeling legs - all the legs have crenelated wide greaves with in-built stabilizers.
The two standing Lascannon troopers, one with a braced foot on some rubble. I love the look of the Lascannon in general, no idea why it's taken me so long to complete a squad, Lascannons rock in 8th!
Every Tank Commander's nightmare to come face to face with these as an enemy!
Yes the Sergeant is still pointing, "Vapourise it!"
And it was pleasing to see that even after two years break from doing Devastators, okay Oct 2018 I last finished something Relictors grey, but, my painting style and finish is consistent. The Grav Sergeant has more elaborate armaments due to the short range of Grav Cannons, and a well placed few extra Grav shots can't hurt (will hurt!)

Thanks for checking out my latest offering to the painting Gods, must get some more Relictors done and ask GW if I can now have Relictors Primaris as I keep seeing them but the fluff says we are Excommunicate - so something is wrong or changed... cheers, Siph. (5 painting points)
