Chaos Daemons - Khorne 40k Additions

Hi One and All,

A quick post on some additional completed daemons for my daemon army, this time of a Khorne flavour!

Samus, Daemon Primarch of the Ruinstorm

I opted to paint Samus with a beast look, with his skin brown rather than the normal 'red' appearance. The model was also built up on a base to change the overall look of the pose. The armour was painted with the same metallic style as the Brass Scorpion and Kytan, and then the model had several coats of Blood for the Blood God over his body. The dead marine was painted in the style of a Dark Angel, I plan to add addition helmets to the model as he kills models in battle as trophies.
Skulltaker

This model I've had for ages, and have done before as Skulltaker on a Juggernaut, however 8th Edn has seen an end to that with GW not issuing rules for it now. I've used the same scheme as before with the flame sword to match my other Bloodletters.
Uraka, The Warfiend

Again, this model has been sat on my 'to do pile' for ages, and finally had time to complete the model. This was painted over a black undercoat, with the skin painted red like my Bloodthirsters. I've tried to paint the model so that it fits with my Khorne units, however it stands out, the horns were painted black, different to the brown/cream horns I've done previously.
Again, I've saved space to add additional helmets/skulls for major kills in game.

Skull Cannon

This Skull Cannon was painted in 2 stages, the cannon and the Bloodletters. The cannon was drybrushed grey, then silver over a black undercoat. The Bloodletters completed as per my other Bloodletters.

Thanks for looking!

WIP Skulltaker on Juggernaut

Hi all,

Just a quick post with one of my current WIP - Skulltaker on a juggernaut!

For those that were at BW3- you may have spotted him making his first tournament appearance- however he didn't take as many skulls as I was hoping for...  :(  I decided to make my own version of Skulltaker, and converted both him and the juggernaut to get the pose right.
The big problem with the Skulltaker model, is also the best part of the model - the cape. Ideally you would position him so that he was riding the juggernaut correctly with his legs either side, this could be done via cutting into the cape however, this was an option I didn't want to take. Instead I opted to convert him and the Juggernaut with a view to achieving a dynamic look with the cape 'flowing' behind him.

To achieve this, I converted his right leg slightly so that it would nestle into the juggernaut - the next step was to cut the sword away from his right arm, and position it so that he could hold on to the juggernaut's collar via a chain piece. The left hand was cut away, and then turned with the sword repositioned. I love the way the sword arm looks, as if he is sizing up the next skull to be beheaded.

The juggernaut had its hind legs modified, so that the juggernaut was rearing up, this was done to:

 a) make the juggernaut stand out
 b) add to the dynamics of the cape
 c) to try to capture the essence of the model - if the juggernaut looked too 'static' the flowing nature of Skulltaker would be lost.

The hind left left leg was heavily converted, as it was completely cut away from the 'knee joint' and the 'ankle' and then re-applied using some 'bitz' to bulk out and support the new positions.

Overall I like the look of the model, and having seen several on various other blogs, I'm quite happy with the finish. I am still in the process of finishing painting up the model, I opted for a metallic juggernaut to contrast with my 'midnight purple' Bloodcrushers. I have tried to create a 'fire' effect both within the juggernaut (eyes, and armour) and Skulltakers sword. I hope you like it! and will post completed pictures once he is finished..

WIP Skulltaker

Having got my 'geek on' fully, recently and started putting together potential army lists for BW3, however I wanted to firstly paint one of my favourite characters from the daemon codex- Skulltaker.

Here is a picture of my current WIP.

The 'flaming' hellblade was done using golden yellow directly onto the black undercoat. I had planned to use a foundation paint first (I forgot to take the paint with me when I was working away from home) hence I went straight for the yellow. I found that the golden yellow's finish didn't completely cover the black, however this in fact enhanced the look of 'flames'  I then added fiery orange, then blood red to the sword. I am currently toying with the idea of adding black/white to the tip of the sword.

For the body I went for Mech' red foundation first, then scab red, then onto blood red. I will be adding a wash and highlighting up from there.

The skulls and cloak need some work to complete, as does the horns- I'm not sure whether to have red horns, or black- this will probably done towards completion of the model.

Will this model be making an appearance at BW3? I guess you'll be asking- maybe- maybe not- I've got another conversion in mind....
