Mechanicum - Vorax Battle-Automata - Squad #2

Hi all, thanks for dropping by. I had the opportunity to purchase some Malinax aligned Mechanicum units from my mate when he was downsizing to make room for more Titans, so I set about changing their allegiance to loyalist Mars aligned Mechanicum. These will sit nicely next to my previous Vorax Battle-Automata purchased from Mordian7th in 2015 (HERE). I also had made and painted a set of these for blogger buddy Zzzzz too, Legio Astorum Vassal aligned (HERE).

I re-painted the power blades to match the first set. Re-painted the thorax and shins and waist segment to show Mars alignment and added some green to match my other Mechanicum robots.

I added green cables and some Ad-Mech crenulation decoration to match the first squad (also now have green cables - not blue as first arrived).

These are great hunter-killer predatory robots, power blades, Rotor Cannons and Lightning Guns

Mechanicum Vorax Battle-Automata for Blogger Buddy Zzzzzz

Hello All, thanks for dropping by. Possibly my favourite Mechanicum unit design, and very insectoid in appearance, the Vorax Battle-Automata are "hunter-killer robots with a design that harks back to the Dark Age of Technology. Created on pre-Imperial Mars to fulfil the roles both of a search and destroy weapon and an exterminator of rogue machines and mutant vermin, their Cybernetica cortex engrams are known to be particularly predatory and vicious examples of their kind", according to the fine folks at Forge World.

I painted these for my blogger buddy Zzzzzz over at Devos IV blog as a favour or exchange for his Custodes models he gave to me for free. To match his Legio Astorum Titan Maniple and the urban wasteland of Devos IV I painted these in the familiar Blues and Golds which look good against the bleak greys of the urban wasteland. A nice departure from my brown bases and I enjoyed painting these gribblies, a bit fiddly at times, only one ammo feed belt was a goner - but repaired and overall I enjoyed getting these done and packed off to the Warp...

This is the Maniple drone leader, armed with the usual Rotor Cannons and Power Blades they all have but this one denoted by the yellow head flash is armed with an Irad Cleanser carapace weapon.

I added heat staining to the Rotor Cannon barrels and a slight blue wash to the Power Blades.

This one has one foot in the air, so the second Rotor Cannon is placed in contact with the ground to provide another point of contact.

The next gribbly is armed with the standard loadout of a Lightning Gun carapace weapon. Plus the Rotor Cannons and Power Blades. I chose to gloss the black eyes to reflect the insectoid look emulating a compound eye.

The urban wasteland bases were simply Dawnstone, washed Nuln Oil and Agrax, drybrushed Dawnstone and then Admisistratum Grey, picking out a few bits of sprue as bricks. Tufts were from Gamers Grass.

Each has a unique decal identifying its designation, on the other side of the carapace an Eclipsed Sun of the Legio Astorum.

The final member is possibly my favourite stance, it looks like the other two have rounded on the prey and this one is braced to carry out the attack. The chin sensor was painted with the Stormhost Silver and Soulstone Blue to give a energy glow.

And finally, an action shot in front of the Shrine of the Aquila, reminiscent of my original three painted by blogger buddy Mordian7th seen HERE.

Vorax Battle-Automata WIP for Blogger Buddy Zzzzzz at DevosIV

Hi All, thanks for dropping in, busy with a few unfinished projects at the moment, a half painted Armiger Warglaive to make the pair, a Reaver Titan Carapace Weapon, a Squad of Necron Warriors and these Mechanicum Vorax Battle-Automata amongst other numerous projects - never can tell where the hobby butterfly takes me...

Blogger Buddy Zzzzzz, a frequent commentor here and owner of the fine Brick of Shame at Devos IV Blog is a very generous chap - or devious, can't work that one out yet ha ha.

When the Custodes first hit I purchased a number of squads - languishing in the to-do pile - and Zzzzzz had no use for his so gave them to me free on the promise I would one day return in kind with a favour... that time has come ;)

In the post came a box of resin joy and here is where I am so far. Quite fiddly and main superstructure legs are now done, bodies and arms also ready for painting just leaving the task to glue/heat/bend the ammo chutes which looks challenging, but do-able.

I'm looking forward to painting these in a differennt scheme than mine (painted by Mordian7th) so to accompany Zzzzzz's Legio Astorum Titans, like mine, I will be painting these in similar colours - like Legio Consorts, ranging ahead of the larger Titans, fixing larger targets and assassinating smaller foes ahead of the Titan God-Machines!

Soon have some colours laid down and we can go from there. A fair exchange for Custodes I reckon.

Mechanicum - Force So Far - Jan 2017

So following the completion of the last of my Mechanicum models, I thought a nice shot of the force so far, can't wait to use them on the battlefield.

So, two Thanatar Siege Automaton with Hellex Plasma Mortars, two Castellax Battle-Automata with Mauler Boltcannons, three Castellax with Power Blades and Multi-Meltas and three Vorax Battle-Automata with Rotor Cannons and Lightning Guns. Great stuff, awesome sculpts. I'll no doubt add some units in the future, especially when I can use them in 40K with the release of the fabled Fire of Cryaxis 40K Mechanicum rules...

Mordian7th's Mechanicum Vorax Battle-Automata Mandiple

I had the opportunity to purchase some fine miniatures from fellow top blogger Mordian7th from across the pond, and he graciously let me bid even though he wasn't originally offering international postage, and since he knew my corner of the blogosphere, we arranged the postage between ourselves and I am now the owner of some great FW sculpts.

Ever since I saw the FW release of these, I had to get some, they reminded me of the Crusader Robot from yester-year and their insect quality made the rule of cool valid - some house rules will hopefully mean I can field these 30K robots in my 40K games...

His original post can be found HERE, I even included a phot of the Shrine of the Aquila (first photo) to match his post ;) All I have done is painted the bases to match my own forces, and added lenses to the weapon servoskull and rotor cannons, and a quick fix to the fibre-bundle links of the blue power lines got done - just a minor fix ;) These are a great addition to the collection, I now own some genuine Mordian7th miniatures, thanks Mordian7th!
