Dreadtober 2019 - Siph's Project - Space Marine Original Metal Dreadnoughts

Hello Dreadtober-teers! My favourite hobby event of the calendar year is back again for another installment, feel free to click on the sidebar picture for a link to the main Dreadtober site, this year being run by Joel (Mordian7th) so a massive thanks to him for keeping the hobby event alive for another year! And thanks to the founder Greggles, and Joe B and Todd (Sincain40Kfor their contributions too.

Dreadtober is an annual event held over the month of October where hobbyists pledge to do a dreadnought-sized model from the to-do pile and get it finished, starting 1st Oct (tomorrow) and hopefully completing 31st Oct (Halloween/All Hallows Eve/Brexit?) with lots of progress shots and encouragement along the way :)

So, this year I am doubling up my efforts and producing two Dreadtober Dreadnoughts, well I thought they are quite small so two should be good - I have two metal Dreadnoughts from back-in-the-day I have been lucky enough to be able to find and purchase with Dreadtober in mind, stripped and deconstructed (oh enamel paints...) and ready for the starting Bolt Pistol tomorrow.
Cleaned up and smelling of Dettol
Okay, not quite an "Eddy" Deredeo Class as he has a Lascannon Arm and DCCW but that's his name now.
Furibundus "Fury" Class with Missile Launcher and Las Cannon

Meet Eddy and Fury (Deredeo and Furibundus) twins who will be joining the Relictor ranks this Halloween all being well. Good luck fellow Dreadtober-teers and wish me luck, Cheers, Siph.

Marneus Calgar Primaris Conversion WIP #3

Hello one and all,

I've started putting together options for Calgar, the next task for next week is to build the ammo feeds from Marneus Calgar's back to the Bolters, I am not sure yet if this will involve the old pieces or another option, TBC.
At the moment I have added a banner to Marneus Calgar - this is an old Blood Angels one, can't recall the kit of the top of my head. I bought this as a single piece on an auction site years ago. I will be removing the tear drop from the banner and replacing it with a suitable Ultramarine 'U' or a skull. The banner will have a similar design as the 2nd generation Marneus Calgar model, either painted or added as a decal.
The model will be added to a scenic base (which model is this from? add your answers in the comment and I'll let you know next week). The base is slightly bigger than the base the stock model comes with. My plan is to colour the base two tones to signify the actual edge of the normal base - in case there are any in game issues with base size etc. I will also be adding a few more skulls to the base.
Really happy with how the model is progressing! Cheers, Lord Halfpenny.

Relictors Space Marine 4th Company - Devastator Squad w/ Lascannons

Hello All, thanks for dropping in. It was about time I continued with some of my Space Marine to-do list as it is a long one (just check out the to-do list!) and I have had part built Devastator Squads sitting on my desk to complete since 7th...oh my, two years ago. I managed a squad of Grav Cannon Devastators when they were good, okay OP, now just good. HERE. Now I thought it was time to do some of the other weapons as I had bought 4 boxes to get all the Grav Cannons!
As I had long ago exhausted the ranks of my 5th Company with two full 10 man squads of Devastators already, my expanding forces are made up of the 4th Company, hence the green Company colour trims on his pauldrons. Lascannon Devastators will be sitting back killing tanks from afar, so a basic armed Sergeant with Bolter and Signum - requisite pointy arm - "Kill that there!"
The kneeling support Lascannons, usually associated with Missile Launchers due to the set of legs that came in the old Tactical Squad box, but it makes sense to brace for an accurate shot from distance, the newest Devastator Squad set comes with a set of kneeling legs - all the legs have crenelated wide greaves with in-built stabilizers.
The two standing Lascannon troopers, one with a braced foot on some rubble. I love the look of the Lascannon in general, no idea why it's taken me so long to complete a squad, Lascannons rock in 8th!
Every Tank Commander's nightmare to come face to face with these as an enemy!
Yes the Sergeant is still pointing, "Vapourise it!"
And it was pleasing to see that even after two years break from doing Devastators, okay Oct 2018 I last finished something Relictors grey, but, my painting style and finish is consistent. The Grav Sergeant has more elaborate armaments due to the short range of Grav Cannons, and a well placed few extra Grav shots can't hurt (will hurt!)

Thanks for checking out my latest offering to the painting Gods, must get some more Relictors done and ask GW if I can now have Relictors Primaris as I keep seeing them but the fluff says we are Excommunicate - so something is wrong or changed... cheers, Siph. (5 painting points)

Warbringer Titan - Future Armament Options?

Hello one and all,

A crazy, mad week - so I haven't had much time to do hobby stuff.. so instead I did a little messing around with the Warbringer Nemesis Titan to see if there was an option for an alternate weapon. I did this previously, however that was during the WIP stage, and not after completion. I am very tempted to buy another Sunfury Plasma Annihilator and try to do this as a conversion, I think the size and look of the cannon would be perfect for the Warbringer..

Too big for an arm weapon being a Warlord Titan Class Arm Mount, the Warbringer Nemesis Class is classed between the Reaver Battle Titan and the Warlord due to reactor capacity and Armament. The Nemesis is so named due to the weapon mount on top, I think particular to the Mori Quake Cannon, however it is scaled for two Battle Titan Arms and one Warlord Class Weapon point - bigger draw on reactor than a Reaver, less than a Warlord.
Definitely a good fit for the carapace being a Warlord Class Weapon point - so what other options are out there - we have seen Mori Quake Cannon, the Warlord has the Belicosa Volcano Cannon and the Mega Gatling Blaster as well as the Sunfury - I feel in the fluff the Sunfury would perhaps be too strong a draw on the Reactor resources however a dual Gatling Blaster and single Mega Gatling Blaster would be a fun option, or even triple Volcano Cannon, two Battle Titan (Reaver) Volcano Cannons and one Belicosa Volcano? What do you think will be the next released, if at all, for the Warbringer Class Titan?
I am sorely tempted with this build for my next though - maybe rework the cabling to go into the weapon housing at the back?
I do love this look, it certainly doesn't look out of place.
Thanks for looking- feedback on thoughts of this would be appreciated, or indeed, if someone has tried this as a conversion?

Cheers, LH

Warhammer 40K can be wonderfully weird - Armorium Cherubs

Hello All, thanks for dropping by on this wonderfully weird element of 40K. My latest addition to my Relictors Chapter Space Marines are these delightful characterful Armorium Cherubs, available to Devastator Squads to allow a weapon to immediately fire again in the same shooting phase.
What I find wonderfully weird is the odd juxtaposition of an adorable baby, albeit mechanically lobotomized and made to 'fly' and the war torn grim darkness of 40K. I love it, odd flying babies supplying your troops with extra ammo to murder death kill more of the Emperor's enemies :)
This chap was from the Space Marine Heroes character set Librarian, I thought the Librarian looked too busy so I chopped him off, gave him a Melta Charge and changed his third eye to a metal stud.
This chap is unaltered, the standard Cherub you get in a box of Space Marine Devastators.
And here they are on the battlefield, the skin was a simple Kislev Flesh washed Reikland Flesh Shade and highlighted Kislev Flesh.
This chap was the standard Armorium Cherub but altered with some spare Missiles and reposed slightly to give some variation.
I quite enjoyed giving them all wide eyes and the bases were my normal recipe of Mournfang Brown, drybrushed Karak Stone and Ushabti Bone, with some tufts and mixed green flock added for detail.
And here is one of the chappies with his Devastator Squad, supplying more Missiles in the heat of battle. The squad is my converted FW Iron Armour Squad, modified to add two modern missile launchers, more pict captures HERE.

Thanks for checking out my wonderfully weird flying baby things. Cheers, Siph. (3 points)

Marneus Calgar Primaris WIP Conversion #2

Hello one and all!

Crazy week, but I've managed to get some time to add further details to my Primaris Marneus Calgar Conversion. The initial post can be found here Calgar Primaris
So from where we finished last time, I have added more detail to the arms, with the addition of both Green Stuff and Purity Seals (they hide soooo many sins) I was also able to add some extra feeds from the Fists to the armour from another model.
I wanted the model to reflect previous versions of Marneus Calgar, and opted to use some Terminator Calgar parts to add further detail - the Eagle head and Ultramarine symbols were added to each shoulder pauldron. The corded braid with the Crux Terminatus honour and skull was cut from the 'U' and added to the chest behind the honours from the new model.
The head was positioned to look forward, rather than to the side, and with that I'm mostly done, more reminiscent of the Marneus I know and love :)
I am really pleased with out the model is looking so far! Cheers, LH

Primaris Intercessors and Reivers from First Strike

Hello All, following on from last week's First Strike Boxset forces of Chaos, this week is the remaining boxset on the loyalist side. I know, very similar to my Relictors grey scheme, but not quite, more like Revilers with the grey pauldrons, anyway I digress... I finished off the box for my Wargaming Professionals and as asked, did a Navy spin to them with Battleship Grey Marines and Desert Camouflage Marines with Green Berets!

Primaris Intercessors
I really enjoyed the familiar grey scheme, more of that in a future post regarding the Primaris and Relictors being excommunicate etc.... I'm seeking clarification from GW after a few things I've seen in the official publications... anyway, this Marine is holding an Auspex, I detailed the screen with radar blips and used Skeleton Horde for the parchment. The Bolt Rifle received attention to the scope and 'laser optic'? Primaris are soo easy and quick to paint, a dream after the enjoyable but ever-so detailed Plague Marines!
The standard Marine, I used my usual colours on the Bolt Rifle, brassy magazine for a spot of colour, black casing for ease of painting, and chose Black Rims on the bevel edge with 'Ardcoat to protect them from non-wargamer usage!
The Sergeant not wearing his helmet as usual, the face was easy with Kislev Flesh, Reikland Wash and Kislev highlights, his hair styled on my own :) obviously! haha.
Navy Marines proudly displaying the White Ensign

Primaris Reivers
The Reivers were painted with Zandri Dust basecoat, washed Agrax and highlighted with Karak Stone. Then the details applied. I chose to keep the pouches a leather brown, Mornfang washed Nuln Oil and a line highlight of Balor Brown.
I went for a desert style colour to differentiate from the Intercessors and more suiting for the Anvil Industry's Beret Heads with Respirators so the guys with the big knives can proudly wear their Green Berets! More fitting to reflect the IRL colours of the Bootneck's daily working uniform MTP.
The Sergeant has a Bionic Eye and a halo marking on this knee and the comms bracelet on the forearm.
The two line trooper Reivers both have full face respirators. All have the grey 'Chapter' grey White Ensign pauldron on the left shoulder, and these have the Assault marking and squad number on the right pauldron. All have a plethora of pouches and grenades and I painted the casing of the Heavy Bolt Pistol in desert colours too, to look more tactical.
There you go, an enjoyable side project to sate the hobby butterfly and get the cogs whirling for my future Primaris forces. The are quite easy and fairly fast to paint, Intercessors anyway, clean lines and smooth uncluttered plates.

Cheers for looking, Siph. (6 points)
