Warmachine – Khador Butcher of Khardov

Today I am showing off my newly finished Warmachine caster; The Butcher of Khardov.

Because he has been getting painted, I haven’t had chance to start using him in games yet – but he is renowned as a bit of a beast in combat with a range of spells and Feats that make the already imposing Khador offensive line, just brutal.

I bought this model secondhand at the same time that I picked up the Great Bears and was pleased when it turned up on a custom scenic base which really makes it stand apart from the rest of my army.
Looking forward to getting him on the table soon!

Warmachine – Khador Great Bears of Gallowswood

Here are some more Warmachine minis; this time The Great Bears of Gallowswood. FYI, they are wearing bear skins – they aren’t the ‘other’ sort of bear...

I picked these up off a guy selling them locally on the RedSteel Preston FB page and I think he likes to convert his WM stuff, because they all had hoods modelled in GS over their heads. I’m sure that would look pretty cool if the entire army is modelled that way, but mine isn’t...so the first thing I did was remove the GS. Unfortunately it looks like the guy had actually removed a good part of the heads whilst converting them, so I then had to drill out the remnants of the heads and replaced them with bitz from my Warriors of Chaos army.

They were then painted up in my standard Khador style and fit in quite nicely with the rest of the growing army (although I screwed up their capes a bit...might go back on fix those later). I have a few more units (and a couple of *big* ‘jacks) on the “to-buy” list and then it should be a pretty decent sized force.

I’ve been looking forward to getting a game with these guys since I got them, but wanted to get them finished first. Great Bears are heavy hitters – pretty much the equivalent of a 3-man medium Warjack. Individually they are average, but they are designed to work in synergy with each other. Each model has benefits that they bestow on the rest of the unit, so when they are a unit of three, they can be extremely nasty! This also puts a bit of a target on their heads so we’ll have to see how they do in practice...

Warmachine - Khador Winterguard Squad

I haven’t played a huge amount of Warmachine recently with Blog Wars 3 prep and the roll-up to 40K 6th Ed, but that hasn’t stopped me painting up my Warmachine army.

Here we have a complete Khador Winterguard squad which comprises of 9 Winterguard Infantry, a Sergeant, a pair of Winterguard Rocketeers, a Winterguard Command Squad and Winterguard character Kovnic Joseph Grigorovich.

Individually the Winterguard are relatively weak, but their strength lies in numbers and synergy with each other; the addition of the Command Squad allows extra Orders and combined attacks, which Kovnic Joe has a choice of Inspiring Speeches which make the unit hit harder or more resilient. When the unit is working correctly – they can be extremely tough.

Warmachine – Khador Assault Kommando Unit

This is going to be my last post about my Warmachine army for a while – primarily because my entire force is now painted up (or it would have been if I hadn’t recently ordered a full Winterguard deathstar unit that has about 15 models in it...my work is never finished). I’m now back in the realm of 40K and am trying to get my ‘Nids ready for the upcoming Blog Wars 3 tournament.

What we have here is a Khador Assualt Kommando unit; I picked these up for less than a tenner on eBay (with their data cards) because I like the models...I have absolutely no idea how they will play and haven’t had chance to get a game of WM in recently.

Looking through their fluff, they are assault units (no duh...) that are able to form Shield Wall (good), fire off smoke grenades which block LOS and lower enemy stats (sounds good), have mediocre ranged and close combat attacks (meh) and their cool gas-masks let them see through smoke effects (makes sense). If anyone reading this has any advice about using them – please let me know in the comments. I can’t see them working that well against GreyLambs Menoth army who are primarily melee based and immune to fire effects, but they could be useful against NotThatOnes Cygnar mob who require LOS for their ranged attacks and burn as easily as Bigfoot on a BBQ.

Anyway, they have been painted up in my uniform Khador red & gold and I have used some exaggerated highlighting to try and give them a “cartoony” feel, to tie them into the rest of my army.

Warmachine – Khador Sorcha, Wardog & Widowmaker Solo

Hi there, today we have a few more finished models from my Khador army.

First up is the warcaster Sorcha – if you are unfamiliar with Warmachine, the warcaster is essentially the General of an army and she was included in the Two Player Battle Box that I got. Although the character is pretty good, I’m not overly fond of the model and will probably be getting one of the other variants to really spend some time painting.

Next is the Wardog – a character attachment that I haven’t had chance to try out in a game yet, but reading through the Privateer Press forums, the poochy is a staple addition to Khador warcasters and allows a number of ways for them to escape life threatening situations.

The lighting in the pics is a bit rubbish and doesn’t show the range of different browns I managed to work into the finish of the dogs fur, to try and make the model a little more interesting.

Finally, we have the Widowmaker Solo; the solo attachment for the Widowmaker unit I painted up here. Most Warmachine units seem to have some sort of solo or character that is specifically tailored to boost the units performance in some way.

I’ve played a few games with this guy and for an elite sniper, he can be a bit hit or miss, but have found that Widowmakers can be pretty devastating against one-wound enemy infantry.

Warmachine – Khador Juggernaut & Beast’09

Here are the two Warjacks that I have been the most using recently.

The first one is the Juggernaut and it is pretty much the go-to Heavy ‘jack in Warmachine, with loads of armour, hit points and damage dealing potential.

This one has been painted up the same as the Destroyer; I’ve tried to keep it simple and a little cartoony with the edge highlights. This one has also been fully magnetised in case I want to swap out any weapons.

The last Warjack I currently have is Beast ’09. It is a character ‘jack that is essentially a super-Juggernaut. Beast ’09 has an affinity for Sorcha, who is currently my only caster, so he has been seeing lots of play and has been really effective (standing up to 3 Menoth Jacks for a few turns and a second-turn Warcaster assassination).

My favourite tactic is to use Sorcha’s ability to give him an extended charge and coupled with his Reach and Thresher weapon abilities, he can really surprise opponents.

Because I love playing him and have started treating him like a pet dog, I wanted to give him a good paint job, so spent a fair amount of time on this model. I managed to get a bit of practice painting things that I am unfamiliar with – like the ice on the axe and the worn/burned pipes on its back. Overall, I am pretty happy with this dude.
