Chaos Daemons - Flamers of Tzeentch, Chaos Spawn and a Poxbringer

Hello all, thanks for dropping by. My (Siph's) final batch of additions to the hordes of Chaos Daemons I have amassed is a squad of Flamers of Tzeentch, some Chaos Spawn and a Nurgle Poxbringer. These complete this year's offerings to our soon departed Liege Lord of Painting, Duncan. All Hail!

Flamers of Tzeentch
The Flamers were a bargain on eBay, I liked the rock bases so I bought at a bargain and repainted them and added 32mm base adaptors to increase the size of the base.
The teeth were picked out in Ushabti Bone and contrast painted with Skeleton Horde. The flames were painted with the same colour palette as my Plasma, Baharroth Blue, Temple Guard Blue and Sotek Green and the bodies washed Leviathan Purple wash over a blue basecoat.
These used to be really effective on the battlefield of 7th, but I am yet to get an 8th Edition Daemons Codex so it will be a pleasant treat finding out how and what in my growing Daemon force is effective, but at this stage I will field all of it to make 2000pts and cheap small units cannot hurt if trying to get a Brigade Detachment for the ample supply of Command Points.
I couldn't save the slate so I had to repaint over it as it was covered with a gloss goo.
So, a cheap small fast unit of potential death-bringing wreathing enemies with eldritch Flickering Flames! A nice addition to the horde of Chaos I have amassed - must go buy that Chaos Daemons Codex now!

Chaos Spawn
Now, not strictly a Daemon addition, as these are found in the Chaos Space Marine Codex and I will field alongside my Daemons with a CSM Daemon Prince as the HQ and these as the Outrider Detachment.
Four were painted as Nurgle affiliated Spawn and two as Khorne. I picked these up also on eBay, repainted them especially as the original paint job had green Khorne spawn - that just wouldn't do, so I kept the purple spikes and claws and repainted everything else and the bases.
These two Nurgle Chaos Spawn had the bone and horn areas painted with Ushabti Bone and Skeleton Horde contrast, the horns having darker browns as a base, the darker horn being toward the older tips; the bodies a mix of Deathguard green, Loren Forest, Catachan Green and Nurgling Green finished with Agrax Earthshade. The bases my usual colours but a few grey rocks left to add contrast and detail. Tentacles got a liberal coat of Nurgle's Rot technical paint to look like ooze and pus after the matt varnish to remain glossy.
These Khorne Chaos Spawn were completely repainted too, save the purple claws which I added a wash to, and some Blood for the Blood God, obviously! The spikes on the crab claws again Skeleton Horde over Karak Stone.
The final two Nurgle Chaos Spawn followed the recipe for the first two, with the eyes picked out, given slit pupils and finished off with 'Ardcoat gloss after the matt varnish to look wet. I also added Nurgle's Rot technical paint over any tentacles.

Poxbringer of Nurgle
The Poxbringer is a Psyker for the Nurgle Daemons, and a cheap HQ slot Character, up to now I only had Greater Daemons for my Nurgle Daemons, in the form of a Great Unclean One so this addition is a great addition to ensure I can bring along a dual Battalion or a Brigade for lots of CPs.
The Poxbringer was a bargain eBay job too, this time a decent paintjob which I added too and didn't totally do again. I repainted some of the gory innards and torn fleshy areas, however the Deathguard Green skin areas and the Nurgling were great job so they remained. Only half painting points for this Character.
I picked  out the boils and gave them 'whiteheads', the torn flesh coats of Blood for the Blood God and some Screamer Pink and Pink Horror and even a little Averland Sunset as the subcutaneous fat layer. The organs were picked out and the entrails given 'Ardcoat to look wet.
The Balesword was a grey basecoat but with a metallic drybrush of Leadblecher and a wash of Nihilakh Oxide technical paint for the verdigris look. Plus a little Blood for the Blood God after the varnish.
There you go, some great offerings to the Dark Gods just before the year's end! Next year I am going to start out on some well deserved big items that have been languishing in the to-do pile for too long and of course, work on a Titan ahead of June's Titan Owners Club Walk UK... no promises - my track record is 3.5yrs for a Titan!

Have a great New Year's and see you all in 2020 for more WeeMen hobbies and fun!

Cheers, Siph, Lord Halfpenny and the elusive 6thDegree.

Chaos Daemons - Daemons of Nurgle - 40k Additions

Hi All,

So the final 'Daemons Additions' for now, showing my completed additions to the Dameon army in the form of Nurgle units.

Great Unclean One

For this model I opted for the fail/sword combo. The model was based with Death Guard green, with dark angel green added to the parts that would be in shadows, then a highlight of an old goblin green colour, followed  with a wash with green/agrax to build up the colour. The boils were picked out with a deep yellow, and all the open wounds were painted similar to sights I've seen in operating theatres, with the opening of the wound having red outer colour, with a deep yellow for the 'fat'. The deeper recesses of the wounds were painted with a richer red, and had blood for the blood god added to add a shine to it. The intestines were painted purple to stand out. I then added Nurgle Rot into folds, and over certain parts of the model to add further details to the model.
Rotigus

Rotigus was painted similarly to the Great Unclean One, however this was over a Zandri Dust base to alter the hue of the model. The tentacles were painted going from purple to a pink tip. I also added some bright green to the 'force rod' to try to make the rod pop.
Scabeiathrax the Bloated

Again I kept a similar scheme to the first GUO to keep the units looking like a force, I swapped the washes around so that the green went over the Agrax. The sword details were picked out with A rust dry brush which was strippled onto the sword to mimic rust. Typhus Corrosion was also added to add further detail to the sword.

Cor'bax Utterbright

For the Cor'bax model I moved away from Greens to make the model stand out, using a Zandri dust base, washed up with Agrax. The tentacles were painted to match the tongue in a deep purple to match the other units. Plenty of Nurgle Rot was used on this model!
Mamon Transfigured

I redid the initial scheme over Mamon to fit with the other models, further washes of Green and Agrax was added, as well as Nurgle Rot. The wounds were also picked out like the GUO.

Nurglings

9 Bases of Nurglings, all painted as per the Great Unclean one, with details added to stand out such as the wounds, tongues and eyes. I really like the overall look of all 9 together, that they all tie in, but also would look good as a single model.
Giant Chaos Spawn

This conversation used the 'watcher from the Deep' model (Which I loved the moment I saw it) as a Giant Spawn, pulling its weight over a down Imperial Knight, (Which might be of a similar colour to Siph's..) The model again was painted a similar scheme as the GUO, with the knight painted Blue, with plenty of browns around the edge to represent mud and dirt.

Hope you like the Disgustingly Resilient amounts of Nurgle reinforcements...

Cheers, Lord Halfpenny (64 points to the annual painting total)

Chaos Daemons - Nurgle - Giant Chaos Spawn

Hi One and All,

I've recently spent a lot of time updating and finishing several Nurgle units for the WHW battle with Siph the day after WarhammerFest. (Pics soon..) Here is one of the units completed, my chaos Giant Chaos Spawn - using the LOTR, watcher in the water model.

I loved the model I the moment I saw it, and knew that I had to find a use for the model - and the moment I saw the rules for the giant spawn, I thought it was the perfect opportunity!
I've painted the model over a nurgle green base, with biel tann green wash, then agrax. The model then had blood for the blood god and nurgle rot to add depth to the unit.
The model was based on a 'spare' knight carapace and shoulder guard, with the 'squid' spawn sliding over the curve of the carapace. This adds a little height to the model. There was little conversion needed to make the model fit to the base other than to pin the stomach to the base.

Thanks for looking!

Cheers LH (5 Painting Points)

Chaos Daemons - Plague Toads of Nurgle

Hi Everyone, thanks for dropping by our humble corner of the blogosphere. My latest additions to the Daemons of Chaos army which has been quietly building up forces in the background, are these Forge World Plague Toads of Nurgle. After last week's post from Lord Halfpenny showing his WIP of his Toads, I thought I should move mine up the order of scheduled posts and get mine out there!
As Lord H said, we bought these on a whim at Warhammerfest this year, I've always wanted them but I didn't know what I'd use them for, but now I can use them as either Beasts of Nurgle, Chaos Spawn or the actual rules are now available in 8th Edition FW Index: Forces of Chaos.
I used some Blood For the Blood God and Nurgles Rot to give glistening pus and sickly wet bloody maws. This Toad was Zandri Dust, zenith highlighted Skull White and then washed Agrax and Sepia. I added a few random splotches of various washes and picked out the eyes and toe nails.
I wanted a quick scheme to get these off the To-Do pile, as this year I didn't want to add to it, I'm trying to reduce the backlog! So washes are your friend with Nurgle Daemons!
The second Toad, grinning Toad was mainly washed Sepia over the Zandri Dust basecoat. I picked out all the horns and spines.
The raw skin pockmarks I picked out with Nurgles Rot and the horns with Karak Stone and Ushabti Bone washed with Agrax. Again 90% of the work with these was done with washes.
And finally my favourite, the Toad that looks like Slimer from Ghostbusters, so I washed with Biel Tan Green wash, a lot of Blood for the Blood God in the mouth and some manky yellow teeth.
So, nice additions for the growing Chaos Daemons army I have as my third/fourth army... rapidly becoming my third place in terms of size. Nick at the Burning Eye blog is working on a few more commissions for me, so the force will grow a little more soon!

Thanks for checking them out, cheers, Siph.

Iron Warriors - (kitbashed) Chaos Spawn

So here are a couple of conversions I built a few months ago but never got round to painting – well, now they’re done!
You might remember that I kitbashed an IW-themed DaemonPrince a while ago – not to use in any of my lists, but in case I got lucky on the Chaos Boon table. I then realised that I hadn’t got any Chaos Spawn if I managed to roll at the other end of the table…
Rather than forking out £20-something for a couple of GW Spawns which would probably not see the light of day (and not look very IW-like), instead I decided to kit-bash my own out of spares.
As you know, I’m not going for “chaosy” IWs and also wanted to reflect that with any Daemons associated with the army. I immediately thought of the Technovirus (which according to some fluff originated from Nurgle) and The Thing (got to love the effects of the mutations).

The first Spawn is an old CSM from my bits box that I hacksawed in half. I then patched up the sawn edges with greenstuff and added some fleshy texture and connected the two halves with guitar wire (bottom E I believe…) for mechanical guts/tendrils.
I wanted both Spawn to appear as if they had recently ‘changed’ so painted all the armour as I would any other IW trooper. Tamiya X-27 (with a touch of brown) was used for the blood (we might see more of that later in an idea I have for another unit….).
The second spawn was relatively simple to bash together – although it took quite a bit of greenstuff to get the limbs to meet in that position… The head is a 3rd party bit from Puppetswar.eu.
I didn’t think these guys would ever get used, but the first time I took them out a lowly CSM Champion ascended/descended to spawnhood after hacking apart one of LordH’s Termi Sergeants in a challenge…and then went on to finish the Termi squad and trash a Razorback…so maybe the dark fates are watching minis after all…?
