Terrain and Scenery - Shrine of the Aquila Complex - 6MMRPC

Welcome Readers, thanks for dropping in. Following up from the previous two Shrine of the Aquila posts, I thought I'd show off the finished article together, shows the grandeur of the piece, made from two of the GW Shrine of Aquila sets and a bit from the Honoured Imperium scenery set too.
This is a massive terrain piece and can be a great objective in a game of 40K, nothing better for a stirring defence piece, or as line-of-sight blocking terrain for the Titans and Knights we are lucky enough to have.
Thanks for dropping in and having a look, feel free to check out all the terrain posts, here TERRAIN. And another bit done during my 6 month mountain reducing painting challenge (6MMRPC). Cheers.

Terrain and Scenery - Shrine of the Aquila 2 - 6MMRPC

Hello again dear readers, thanks for dropping by. Here is my second Shrine of the Aquila, to match the other one posted a few days ago. This one was painted in conjunction with the other one, so the colours match and the final piece is the same.
This corner ruins is part of the Honoured Imperium scenery set, along with the Ruined Aquila and the Statue of a SM Hero. This bit had been waiting for quite some time to be used, and with the Shrine of the Aquila details, now was the perfect time.
Again, I've added spot colour with the lamps, and doorway. The gold was Brazen Brass, Shining Gold and a Runefang Steel drybrush.
Next up will be both together, a great centre piece terrain feature. Thanks for dropping by, please check out the link HERE for more terrain ideas or the Terrain label in the sidebar. And another bit done during my 6 month mountain reducing painting challenge (6MMRPC). Cheers, Siph.

Terrain and Scenery - Shrine of the Aquila 1 - 6MMRPC

Welcome to our humble corner of the blogosphere, here is my latest offering to the terrain gods, a sizeable Shrine of the Aquila. A great thematic terrain piece and in these days of D Weapon toting Wraithknights and Imperial Knights, a good line of sight blocker and cover.
The main colour was a GW Zandri Dust spray, washed with Agrax Earthshade and drybrushed with Ushabti Bone. The walkways were drybrushed with Leadbelcher and a few small details done.
The piles of rubble were simply off cuts from sprue, chopped up with cutters, and the base was my usual 3mm hardboard, cut with a jigsaw and sanded edges. This was painted Calthan Brown (the large pot of brown in the GW Scenery Pack) and drybrushed Kommando Khaki and Ushabti Bone.
I thought I'd add a little spot colour with the lamppost and lamps. A simple blue with black centre and a white point to resemble glass, hopefully it does the job nicely.

Another one is on the way, to make a big centre piece terrain. Thanks for dropping by, and more more ideas, check out the Terrain Label in the side bar or HERE. And another bit done during my 6 month mountain reducing painting challenge (6MMRPC). Cheers, Siph.

Terrain and Scenery - Arcane Ruins - 6MMRPC

Another piece of the unpainted pile of plastic now done, a nice little terrain piece. I've had these Arcane Ruins for quite a while, I used the Skulls as door carvings on my first Relictors Whirlwind in 2010! (Pictures Here). So I mean a while...
I mounted it on 3mm hardboard (fibreboard) so I could have some collapsed ruins. The painting was simply Zandri Dust spray with Agrax Earthshade wash and a Ushabti Bone drybrush. The ground was my usual Cathan Brown, Kommando Khaki and Ushabti Bone highlights and a little flock for spot colour.
Thanks for dropping by, more terrain ideas can be found here! And another bit done during my 6 month mountain reducing painting challenge (6MMRPC). Cheers.

Relictors Space Marine Sicaran Battle Tank Finished - 6MMRPC

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping by. Here is my latest offering to the painting gods, an awesome FW Space Marine Sicaran Battle Tank! I absolutely love the brutal compact aesthetic of this tank. It screams destruction and 'da business'. No frills, just pure Astartes killing power.
Midway between the Predator and a Landraider, this tank sacrifices any transport capacity to mount the rapid firing Accelerator Autocannons, which Render and track skimmers - negating Jink saves.
Along with that the model comes with either Heavy Bolter sponsons or Lascannon sponsons, I went against the rule of cool (I love drum magazine Heavy Bolters) and went for the specialised role of Anti-Tank and mounted the Lascannons - but this gave me a chance to try out 6thDegree's OSL without an airbrush (tutorial here) and the end result is pretty cool, so maybe rule of cool prevailed after all...
Nothing special, just the rear, showing this Relic Sicaran has been seconded to the 5th Company Relictors. The grey is my usual recipe of Dawnstone (Codex Grey, or AP Uniform Grey Spray), with a Nuln Oil Wash (with a tip of the large tank brush dipped in Lahmian Medium to prevent the wash pooling and getting tide marks - I often get asked how I avoid streaks on larger vehicles), then a drybrush of Administratum Grey (Fortress Grey) and then 500 Boltgun Metal rivets later...
I've kept the transfers and embellishments at a minimum to show off the blue-glow effect. Transfers were applied over a gloss varnished patch, applied with Micro Set (sticks) and Micro Sol (melts the edges to look painted on) and sealed with gloss varnish. Once finished, the whole tank is sealed with Purity Seal matt varnish to protect and knock off the gloss effect, then the lenses/view ports are re-done with Gloss 'Ard Coat.
The top down view, shows off the ammo hopper feeds into the Accelerator Autocannons.
And if you were unsure of the size comparison between Landraiders and Predators, a useful photo comparison for you.
Can't wait to get this out on the new battlefield GameMat!

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed and found the tips useful. Cheers. Part of the 6 month mountain reducing painting challenge pile done! (6MMRPC)

WIP - Relictors Sicaran Battle Tank - 6MMRPC

Today is the first real contribution to reducing my Mountain of Plastic and Resin, and my first pledge to the 6MMRPC cause. As in the spirit of the challenge I've posted my WIP shot, and will post once done, but for now you can see that it's a genuine FW Sicaran, none of  that undermining Chinese resin crap and I've armed it with lascannon sponsons against my rule of cool, as I loved the barrel magazine heavy bolters, but as an Anti-Tank tank, it made more sense for some higher strength, low AP weapons as well as the rending high rate of fire Accelerator Autocannons. And it will give me a chance to try out 6thDegree's Blue Glowing Effect Tutorial too. Do not fear, those heavy bolters will make their way onto a dakka Predator at some point as they are too good not to use.

The kit went together well, no filling required on the main body, the Accererator Cannons needed straightening as always and the sponsns are glued as they are just too fiddly.

This will mean all three Weemen have Sicarans! Nice stuff.

Thanks for stopping by!

6MMRPC II - 6 Month Mountain Reduction & Painting Challenge

I saw this and thought I'd give it a go, at least for the times I am in country and this way it'll give a formalised plan to my often haphazard painting progress. The pre-season has begun! David at Spiderweb of History has taken the lead on burnishing the rules and started the collective dash of lemmings towards the mountains of lead/plastic and resin. It's simply easier to copy and paste his informative post here:

Alright everybody, it's time for the 2nd Annual 6 Month Mountain Reduction and Painting Challenge or 6MMRPC.  We've changed up the time frame - it's going to run from 1 June 2015 through to 30 November 2015.  This avoids Christmas.  There have also been a few rules changes, and some exciting additions IN BOLD.

1. No purchasing of new miniatures, EXCEPT if you use a joker.  You get three jokers to use on a figure purchase.  Could be a blister pack, an ebay bundle, or a single figure...you can't splurge. The
only exception to this rule is if you need bitz or A FIGURE (Singular) to complete a unit/warband etc.

1.1 - There is an opportunity to "earn" additional jokers.  If you complete an entire project
(whole unit/army/warband etc.) with pictures of starting, WIP, and completion, you earn yourself a Joker.

2.  Gifts do not count against you. Holidays, birthdays etc. Also, if you're given gift cards by your
hobby illiterate family or friends, you can without penalty use them on anything you want miniatures wise.

3.  Paints, terrain (or materials), and other hobby supplies do not apply to the no purchasing rule.

4.  At least one hobby related blog post and/or Instagram update a week, if possible. If you instagram, be sure to hashtag your pic with #6MMRPC

5.  Zombtober will be part of the 6 month challenge so, Zombie related stuff during October is ENCOURAGED. Other theme suggestions are welcomed.

6.  Anyone that wants to submit a before and after picture of a miniature that they are proud of completing during the course of the challenge to dmcffd@gmail.com will be entered into the running for a gift certificate to a online wargaming store of their choice.  Judging will be by an un-biased person.  Amount on the gift certificate will be dictated by winners nationality but should work out to about $30 U.S. (Spiderweb of History) will not be eligible to win.

So spread the word folks, and lets make this an even better challenge than the last!
