Adeptus Custodes - Custodian Guard w/ Sentinel Blades and Praesidium Shields

Hello All, thanks for dropping by. Another week, another addition to the core of the Adeptus Custodes forces, a squad of Custodian Guard armed with Sentinel Blades and Praesidium Shields.
Custodian Guard form the backbone of the shield companies, and every one is a terrifying force of destruction equal to the strongest of the foe. Whether armed with guardian spear or sentinel blade, their shots are perfectly placed, and every cut, thrust and parry is a masterclass in bladesmanship.
A nice addition to the Guard ranks, a little more resilience with the Shield.

This weekend coming (11 Apr) the WeeMen with Titan Owners Club will be at the South London Warlords Expo - Salute 53 at Excel Centre, London Docklands, battling with Legio Astorum during another great Titan Walk! Come say hi if you are going to be there!

Adeptus Custodes - Vexilus Praetor

Hello All, thanks for dropping by. Another Adeptus Custodes choice added this week, a 'normal' Vexilus Praetor, to add to the options over the more expensive Allarus Terminator version seen HERE
I added a Praesidium Shield for more survivability whilst he provides the aura enhancement to nearby Custodians.
I used contrast paint Magos Purple to the tassle in the Vexilla, to denote higher status. Also gloss varnished the Vexilla whilst the armour had Aegis Plate 'satin' varnish, as it shines with the glory of the God Emperor!
Otherwise, a standard job for a Custodian Character, painted the same as Custodian Guard. I left off the helmet as he REALLY believes in the saving power of the holy relic Vexilla he wields! I see in 10th, a Vexila is only an option for a Guardian Squad and not a stand alone mini anymore and not an aura based cover save etc. shame… but I play 9th still where they are Characters in their own right.

Adeptus Custodes - Custodian Guard w/ Guardian Spears #2

Hello All, thanks for dropping by. Continuing my expansion of the Adeptus Custodes, I have added another unit of 'plain' Custodian Guard armed with Guardian Spears. These boost the numbers now to 8 'plain' Guard and 3 Sentinel Blade/Shield Guard and 3 Pyrthite Guard. Plenty to choose from.

Adeptus Custodes - Pyrithite Guardians

Hello All, thanks for dropping by. More Adeptus Custodes offerings this week, a Forge World special weapons Guardians with Pyrithite Spears, Guardian Spears with a Melta Gun attachment.
These will be a nice addition to the Adeptus Custodes foot sloggers, some extra anti-tank or monster hunters. In 10th Edn they can only be fielded in squads of 5, but in 9th I still play, I can field 3.

Adeptus Custodes - Custodian Guardians w/ Guardian Spears

Hello All, thanks for dropping by. My latest project underway is a long overdue one. Adeptus Custodes, Custodian Guardians. I have had Custodes for a few years since the release of Burning of Prospero and wanted to do the Emperor's elite army for some time. A low model count means I can take my time over each miniature and give them a decent gold colour scheme!
The scheme is purely based on WarhammerTV and Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy tutorials of how to paint Custodes, both feature our Liege Lord Duncan 'Two Thin Coats' and are very easy to follow and great results - I feared gold as a whole mini might look plain or lazy, but the guide achieves an interesting gold full of variations and hues, using Retributor Gold, Liberator Gold and Stormhost Silver and a mix of Reikland Flesh Shade 50:50 Matt/Gloss mix.
I include a rear shot, each Custodian Guardian has a Misericordia (basically an extra Power Sword attack). The armoured joints is Corvus Black washed Nuln Oil, something I'll take back to my Relictors, the Corvus Black is a darker grey than Eshin Grey and lends itself to wash giving detail.
I used my familiar basing design, the same across all armies.
The leather Pteruges were Doombull Brown, washed Nuln and highlighter Squig Orange.
The Guardian Spear blade I thought was going to be uber difficult but was fairly easy. Kantor Blue base, Sotek Green wide highlight, Templeguard Blue highlight, washed Drakenhof Nightshade, re-establish highlight of Templeguard Blue and a small highlight of white.
The plume hair was Mephiston Red, Nuln, Red again, Evil Sunz Scarlet and Wild Rider Red.
Really pleased how these came out, looking forward to building more whilst away and painting them on my return.

Adeptus Custodes - Custodian Guard - Completed Squad #2

Hi one and all, thanks for swinging by. Up next, another completed squad of Adeptus Custodes Custodian Guard.
As a repeat of the previous post, I've completed a further 5 Custodian Guard, but this time armed with Guardian Spears.
Again, as the sentinel blades, I've painted them with Soulstone Blue over a Stormhost Silver base - which gives a really nice effect.
Really happy with the overall look of these guys - the red and gold really contrasts nicely. Bases were done the WeeMen classic way of Mournfang Brown, drybrushed Karak Stone and Ushabti Bone.
Thanks for stopping by!

Cheers, Lord Halfpenny. (Excellent Progress mate - 10 more painting points, Siph.)

Adeptus Custodes - Custodian Guard - Completed Squad #1

Hi everyone,

Firstly, thank you all for the constant encouragement, return visits and look-see’s, from all of us at WeeMen, this humble corner of the blogosphere just hit 800,000 page views, sincere gratitude and cheers from Siph, Lord Halfpenny and the elusive 6thDegree. Anyway, on to the latest additions to our WeeMen!

I've been making steady progress on my Adeptus Custodes, recently, and have just finished the first 5 Custodian Guards.

These are armed with Sentinel Blades and Storm Shields. There is also one armed with the Custodes Vexillla.
I'm really happy with the way the 5 Custodian Guards look, the combination of the gold armour, with the bright red really pops, as well as the blue hue of the weapons contrasting with the gems.
For the lenses of the helmets, I've painted them with the Soulstone Blue gem colour, over Stormhost Silver, it gives the lens a really nice, natural look rather than the painted blue lens.
Thanks for looking! Cheers, Lord Halfpenny. (10 painting points - great job, Siph)

Adeptus Custodes - Custodian Guardians - WIP

 Hi one and all,

I'm slowly making progress with my Adeptus Custodes, with only the final few details to complete before these guys are done.

There are 5 Sword Bearers, and 5 with Guardian Spears, as well as the Forge World event model Ixion Hale who will make a perfect Shield Captain HQ choice!
I've gone for a bright gold finish, with a bright red should guards and helmet plume.  I've also tried to use the 'emerald blue' colour to the silver painted blade- I really like the effect - as the blade shimmers in the light. I've used contrasting red and green gem colours on the armour and Guardians.
Thanks for looking! Cheers, Lord Halfpenny.

Adeptus Custodes - WIP

Hello!

Thanks for popping over.

I've recently been working on a small unit of Custodes, the first 5, plus the Event model I started to use the last 7th battle with Siph at WHW. however I've decided to finish them off, as well as an addition 5 with sword and shields.
I've gone for a basic scheme, with gold sprayed as a base coat, then washed with Reikland flesh Shade then a few dry brushes of gold and silver to highlight.
The sword/spear tips I've tried something different by using soulstone blaze over a silver base layer which adds a nice finish to the blade.
Thanks for looking! Cheers, Lord Halfpenny.

Exo-Armour Squats - Counts-as Custodes w/ Guardian Spears

Hello Peeps, Thanks for dropping by. Something quite old today, but re-purposed. I bought these many years ago and didn't really look at them at the time. Years passed and when examining the lot I saw that these were quite a rough re-cast of the Originals, I know as I did once own the originals. The Bolter arm detail lacks a lot of the finer detail on the three nubs and the multiple cast lines give the game away.  I didn't fork out much as I remember, it was in the early days of eBay and Squats were not quite as sought after. Now stuck with them and cannot re-sell them I put them in the drawer of doom but eventually came to realise that I could use them as Terminator or more recently as Custodes!
With this new sense of purpose and my anger at being duped fading, I thought about what scheme I would like - as counts-as Terminators they could be any colour, but as counts-as Custodes they ought to resemble the Emperor's finest golden warriors - would gold suit Exo-Armoured Squats? Hell yeah, and a plan was hatched.
I used these as a practice for my eventual Custodes gold, so armed with our Lord Duncan's advice, I did the golds as described, Retributor Gold, washed Reikland Fleshshade - (okay Ogryn Flesh) - Highlighted Auric Armour Gold and further highlight of Liberator Gold. I cut off the (fake) tabs under the feet and mounted them on slate to give them more height (so I wouldn't claim modelling advantage on the battlefield) and these are the result.
The Squad Leader has a banner made from a SM Bike aerial, and some gubbins from the Ironbreakers kit (a forthcoming squad of counts-as Space Marines), which worked out nicely.
I used the leather colours Our Lord Duncan used in his Custodes video to see if they looked nice, tick, Custodes scheme sorted now. The Power Axes would nicely counts-as Guardian Spears or Terminator Powerfists, painted using Regal Blue (Kantor Blue), washed with Nuln Oil and highlighted Temple Guard Blue and white washed with Asurmen Blue.
I used the Primaris Marine Dark Angel knee decals to make the basis for a winged Hammer, the Squats favoured icon, this can be seen on the (Storm)Bolter arm.
The slate gives some nice variation in look and height and helps fill the 40mm bases quite nicely. I chose to glaze the slate sightly with Calthan Brown and used the highlight colours from the bases to drybrush the rock edges, linking the rock to the base - but kept the nice purple hue.
The rear shot..
There you have it, a nice salvage job, now back ready for the tabletop to fight once again alongside my Marine forces, as Termnators or Custodes... awesome sauce.

Thanks for checking in, cya, Siph.
