Deathwatch - Rhino and Dreadnought

Hello one and all,

Another week past, another week of working through the 'to do pile' this time, a Rhino and a Dreadnought - which I bought over 15 years ago!

Rhino
This was a spare Rhino I had from the custodes box set, I didn't see the vehicle as the choice for those guys, so I opted to 'paint it black' for the Deathwatch force. This has had a simple black base, Metallic base finish and then line highlights from grey to Thunderhawk Blue then the details have been picked out. For the Deathwatch I am keeping the scheme with red weapons, which will be shown across all units.
Dreadnought
This Forge World Dreadnought was bought years ago when I first got back into the hobby after university (and due to DoW gaming with Siph!). This model had its original Plasma Cannon swapped with another model thus this one was given a twin Heavy Bolter arm. The model has been given an Imperial Fists logo and right arm, I followed the same paint scheme as the other Deathwatch units. On the base there is a back portion of a fallen Dreadnought brother or victim?
Thanks for dropping by! Cheers, Lord Halfpenny. (10pts Rhino and Dreadnought)

Rhino Tank Size Comparison - Modern and Mk 1b

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping in. On the back of last week's post, I thought I'd share what struck me when painting the old Mk 1b Rhino, the size is sooo tiny compared to the modern Rhino, and that isn't actually large enough to fit in 10 Mk7 Marines!
View from the top down
Strikingly different side profiles

I love the design cues the modern Rhino took from the old Mk 1b, the modern one is definitely a Rhino, and a great one which has stood the test of time up to now. Great fun, thanks for dropping in, Cheers Siph.

Relictors Old School Rhino APC Mk1b - for my RTB01 Marines

Hi Readers, thanks for dropping in our humble corner of the blogosphere. Today I have a gem, a reconditioned original Rhino Mk1b, I was lucky enough to get this in a job lot of old Warhammer gear that someone was clearing out.
I sanded and resprayed the Rhino with Army Painter Uniform Grey which is a great match for Codex Grey (Dawnstone). I washed the Rhino with Nuln Oil and drybrushed with Administratum Grey.
The Rhino is ideal for the RTB01 Squad I finished for Squaduary in February, they are in the 4th Company as I already have 6 Tactical Squads in my 5th Company. The Company colour is green, hence the green background. The old rhino had some cracked rear lights which was quite fitting for its age.
I replaced the bent aerials with skull topped aerials from the SM Bike kit and added a modern Storm Bolter as the original Bolters were missing.
The front got the same treatment of the other Rhinos with a Chain and a Skull Motif.
The Tactical Arrow was masked off using tape and painted on, which worked really well and matches the others with FW Transfers.
And finally, a shot with the RTB01 Marines and their new ride! A great addition to the Relictor forces, albeit the growing 4th Company! Next up, something bigger, time to start that Spartan Heavy Assault Tank as part of Spartember.  Thanks for dropping by, Cheers, Siph.

Old School Purchase Find - Job Lot £50 Bargain

Hi Guys and Gals, I had to share this amazing lucky find, at the moment I work at an Organisation which has an internal 'sales and wants' blog for want of a better description. Well a work colleague knew I am interested in Warhammer 40K and pointed me to a sales ad for a job lot of old Warhammer 40k goodness...  I offered a price and advised that they would get more if they sold separately as lots on eBay, but the owner was happy to take my cash knowing some of their childhood tanks and Weemen would be re-purposed and put back into service for the Emperor! I promised I would inform them once I repainted the Rhino, the one thing in the lot I really wanted, and a deal was made!

Here is the 1996 Era Terminator Captain who I stripped with Dettol and is up on the auction block.
An old school Landspeeder Typhoon, which will get a new grey Relictor paintjob. I don't actually have an Assault Cannon armed one! Bargain.
The Rhino, cleaned up and basecoated with Relictor grey WIP, aerials repaired (bent) and mount for a Storm Bolter added, (was missing guns) and a missing exhaust made from a Necron Power Cable but look! INTACT HANDRAILS! Unheard of, small snap repaired and good for the ride for my RTB01 Squad from Squaduary earlier this year!
A part plastic, part metal Devastator Squad needing some love or stripping - probably for the eBay block...
A couple of Attack Bikes and SM Bikes, with half metal rider Torso's Sergeant, Melta and Plasma.
An old but VERY heavy metal Dreadnought - this will end up on the scenic base of my Necron Tomb Stalker.
An old School Predator RTB08, I think will get a clean up and requisitioned into the Relictor ranks
Some Blood Angel Death Company and Chaplain, also for the stripping and auction block.
Lots of spares, arms, weapons and Back Packs for those metal Torsos
Up on the auction block an incomplete Assault Squad, four Marines and three jumppacks plus some CC weapons.
A full Tactical Squad with arms, weapons and box. Already sold.
A selection of Deathwing, Assault and Assault Cannon Rogue Trader Era Terminators, and some metal Scouts, I think all for stripping and auction but the Scout Sergeant may get a reprieve...
2nd Edition Gretchin, sold already as is, painted but could do with some love.
2nd Edition Goff Ork Boyz, also sold and on their way to their new owner.
And lastly, a couple of 2nd Edition Tactical Squads, too static for my liking, so already sold too. So far I've recouped over half my outset, I have a few other random metal minis in Dettol as I type, a DA Standard Bearer, Ezekiel without his Sword, some Biker Torso's etc.

A great bargain! And an RTB Rhino Mk1b with Handrails! Good times.

Relictors Forgeworld Damocles Command Rhino

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping by to have a look at my latest offering. It only seemed apt that on the day GW offer us the Command Rhino, I finally painted the FW one! Here is a small dent in the FW to-do pile, in the form of my Damocles Command Rhino. In the latest IA book, War Machines of the Adeptus Astartes it costs the same as a Stalker from Codex SM, and for that you get Teleport Beacon, +1/-1 to Reserves and a once per game Orbital Bombardment, and fills one of the HQ slots.

I haven't yet seen the rules for the new SM Command Rhino, but I guess I'll get one of those too!
I've painted the Damocles in a similar way as my other 16 Rhino based tanks(!) with black flash and panels and adorned it with the usual skull motif with crossed bones denoting a command vehicle, and a chain. As it is a command vehicle, I left off a numeral on the front panel and added a wreathed skull motif instead to denote it's command status.
I think these small Aquila were from the Stormtalon kit, the FW kit comes with the nice additional comms box at the rear of the tank, I've added a small scale aerial to the top of it, but the stub aerial it comes with is fine.
This one is called 'Ferrum' as a nod to 6thDegree's Iron Warriors and Canis Ferrum the newest Titan to Weemen's armies which accounted for over 7000 hits to the blog in February!
Next up, maybe a Hunter to accompany the Stalker, or some Necrons... hmm...

Thanks for dropping in, hope you like.

Iron Warriors (another) Rhino

Hi everyone, here is another mini that was finished before the Warhound project began but I didn't want to break up my project series for a lowly Rhino - so here it is!
This is now the army's 3rd Rhino, with a 4th counts-as so that all my CSM squads currently have their own armoured transport.
Obviously the Rhino has all of the obligatory FW doors to fit in with the rest of the army.
Not much more to say really...

Iron Warriors - Rhino Counts-As

Hi again. I picked up this tank as part of Ramshackle Games Brothers of Iron Kickstarter. I pledged around £30 and got the tank and some soldier figures that I will be using for Cultists/Renegade Guard (when I get around to it).
The tank is about the same size as a Rhino - so I will be using it as a counts-as  if I ever need a spare for my Iron Warriors, or for the other projects I've mentioned.

The sculpt is pretty nice - lots of rivets and the tracks are more interesting than GWs offerings, although it is a little light on weapons (you get loads in the kit, but not many hard-points to fix them to). I went with the mini-cannon so it can be a Havoc Missile launcher.
The thing weighs a ton - its mad up of 2 or 3 solid blocks of resin - so don't want to drop that on anything...

It got painted up as normal for my Iron Warriors, with plenty of weathering butI left off any sort of Iron Warrior insignia for now - it looks the part with the rest of my army but I have a theme I am going for in my head with the Renegade Guard, so am sticking to that for now.
Here is a side-by-side pic with a Rhino for some scale - pretty close eh?

Iron Warriors - Rhino

Hi guys - Happy New Year!

It seems that I have disappeared slightly since the start of December (Siph edit: November mate!) and whilst I have been crazily busy, I have managed to get quite a bit of painting done - so my hobbying News Year's Resolution is going to be getting more posts out.

Here we have my second Rhino for the Iron Warriors. I actually picked this up with my 2nd place winnings from Blog Wars 5 (which was summer '13), which gives an idea of how long it's taken me to get it posted.
As with my other Rhino, it's decked out with Forgeworld Iron Warrior doors to keep the theme going.

Its also armed with the excellent Havok Missile Launchers to throw around a bit more template hurt.
