Dreadtober 2025 - Week 3 - Armiger Warglaives COMPLETE

Hello Dreadtober-teers!

For those not in the know, Dreadtober is an annual event held over the month of October where hobbyists pledge to do a dreadnought-sized model from the to-do pile and get it finished, starting 1st Oct and hopefully completing 31st Oct (Halloween/All Hallows Eve) with lots of progress shots and encouragement along the way :) and I like to partake in Dreadtober, and have done for a few years, a veteran of now 9yrs with a sum of six Dreads, two Imperial Knights and a Necron Construct but now two more Armigers added to the tally!

The pair of Armiger Warglaives are now completed and I am making a Banner of Knight Armigers to take to the Titan Walk at the end of October, so a few days before Dreadtober finishes.

Here is the previous pair completed before Dreadtober, much the same as the initial three I have, but I swapped the arms around for the latest pair and used the Helverin armour without the crenellations or skull thigh motifs for some variation.

The new Armiger Warglaives to add to the pack, in AT28mm you can field a swarm of 9 of these mechanical beasties! No.7of9 has a dead Necron at the feet, as a 'Borg' tribute.

Imperial Knights - Vassal Knights of Legio Astorum - Armiger Warglaive #3

Hello All, thanks for dropping by. Hot on the heels of last week's Imperial Knight Paladin, the bonus Armiger I bought with it was also completed in my Vassal Knights of Legio Astorum scheme. Meet Armiger Squire - Knave Erasmus riding Warglaive 'Cowards Bane'.

A mighty Thermal Spear, Melta Gun and an Armiger Chain Cleaver these nimble Knight Squires accompany the larger Knights, scouting for enemies and are quite effective in close combat too.

The Chain-Cleaver, a smaller derivative of the Reaper Chainsword of the Questoris Knights, but mighty compared to an Astartes Chainsword!

I added the accent colours of brass mirroring the Questoris schemes.

The Thermal Spear is a mighty Multi-Melta type weapon, easily melting armoured vehicles and heavy troops to molten slag. I added heat staining to both the Thermal Spear and Melta Gun barrels.

And now I have three Armiger Warglaives mirroring the three Armiger Helverins I also have. That makes 21 Knights in all so far... and I still have that box of Renegade to start and another Questoris Knight to complete...

Imperial Knights - Armiger Warglaive #2 - Vassal of Legio Astorum

Hello All, Happy New Year! Thanks for checking this out. I finally finished the second Armiger Warglaive from the Forgebane box set, now a pair of fiendishly quick metallic monsters to nip at the heels of the God Engines of Mars! Meet 'Knave Balthazar' riding 'Unalloyed Victus'.

A shot of the two is further down the post, but where this one differed from the first was the choice of yellow feet and flame designs on the shin armour - a common site on the Legio Astorum 'Warp Runners' of old, less so on the modern take of this ancient Legio, but I thought I'd bring some old-school cool back. Mighty Reaver Honorum has flame designs on his knee too.

A rear gubbins shot - not much to say, simple metallic job with a few garnishes. The slate on the base adds weight and is well, slate from the garden, drybrushed with Karak Stone and Ushabti Bone. You can see the white striped and the flame designs on the rear Pauldrons - common on my Legio Astorum forces, so a nice visual link.

I added heat stain effects to the barrels of the Thermal Lance and the Melta Gun, a simple four wash process, black - blue - purpe - sepia from muzzle to back.

I used the 'angry-eyebrows' head on this one, I liked the expression! The Chain Cleaver was painted the same as the first, picking out the teeth with Stormhost Silver.

From the top down you can make out the shoulder pauldron designs, flames on one with a cog design of the Mechanicum, and an Eclipse of the Legio Astorum on the other with the familiar blue/white striped design my Titans carry, the first Armiger had striped shin armour so these visually link the two again.

Here are the two together, standing proud in the livery of the Legio Astorum, yellow neck guard armour instead of the yellow head armour of the larger God Engines, the blue is Kantor Blue and looks a little darker irl, and the gold trim common on Legio Astorum machines.

And here is a shot of the Consorts of Legio Astorum ranging ahead of the Warhound Titan Canis Bellum supporting the Grey Knights in a planetary assault on Detolf II   ;)

Imperial Knights - Armiger Warglaive Vassal Of Legio Astorum

Hi All, thanks for dropping by. I really enjoyed putting this model together and painting it. A really nice kit overall and I'm sure we'll see new weapon options soon as they are on a separate sprue to the body and legs set.

I plan on painting my Imperial Knight force as a Vassal House to my Titan Legion, Legio Astorum hence the adoption of the Legio Astorum colours and the halo moon on the shoulder pad. This was a nice starter test scheme for the other Knights and perhaps some progress on the long overdue Warlord - well I am going to the Titan Owners Club UK Walk!

The Chain Cleaver sports some kill markings already. I largely followed the same sort of endo-skeleton scheme as Duncan on WarhammerTV so used bronze on spots to break up the mass of Leadblecher.

I sooted up the exhaust stacks and painted his toenails...

The Melta Gun and Melta Lance both have heat staining using Agrax/Purple/Blue/Nuln Oil combination which gives a simple and effective detail.

The cowl above the head is painted yellow as the Legio Astorum scheme because the head is usually yellow but this model has a metallic head. As for transfers, I used the Halo Eclipse from the Legio Astorum sheet from FW, an Aquila from SM Vehicle sheet and a Cog motif from the Armiger sheet.

Finally a shot next to his bigger brother Warhound Canis Bellum, taking up his consort duties. So, there you have it - 'Knave Izrael' riding Armiger Warglaive 'Bane of Iron' of the Vassal Knights of the Legio Astorum.

Imperial Knights - Armiger Warglaive - WIP

The moment Forgebane was up for pre-order I knew I had to order copies, and lucky for me my box of goodies arrived on Saturday morning! straight into action I built one of the knights to see how I could get LED's in like all my previous knights. Currently my knight order numbers 11 built, with another few to be built including the other Armiger knights. I am planning on doing a post showing them once all are finished with transfers.

The kit was really easy to build, and straightforward. I have, like my other plastic knights added a little plastic between the legs and torso to allow the torso to rotate. I've also not glued the arms into a fixed position.

The tricky part was getting the light fixtures in- this is the smallest cavity to work in with all the knights. I've used 2 1mm red LED's, fixed in with a wire connector which I've cut into 2 pieces. this connects to a single CR2032 battery holder with a switch. 1mm holes were drilled into the head sections, then into the body of the knight to allow access for the wires. Then the lights were positioned and taped into the head with strong tape, and then the head glued together.

The model is painted like my other knights, with metallic red over a silver skeleton - with yellow added to the front shoulder pauldrons. Here I will add knight markings. For my knight force, Red denotes a 'knight', green armour for a Baron, and then a different colour for the Lord.

Overall I'm happy with the look of the knight, and he looks perfectly at home with a selection of the knights I have so far!
