Relictors Airforce - Xiphon and Stormtalons - for the fun of it

Just thought I'd post a pic of my Relictors airforce so far, swooping over some suitable scenery as it looks awesome. I say so far... I still have a Caestus Assault Ram and a Storm Eagle to do, and a StormRaven with Chapterhouse extension kit to finish! Oh, and I want a Fire Raptor because they look even better than the Storm Eagle!

Facing the grey tide... resin and plastic mountain ;)

Relictors Space Marine StormTalon Gunship #2

Hi All, hope you are finished with work for the Crimbo Season, if not, thank-you for doing whatever essential work you do. I am lucky enough to be home for Christmas, many of my colleagues are not and are at sea over this period.

Anyway, thought I should post something I have just finished, my second StormTalon Gunship, finally completed after many a month in the pile of boxes labelled 'to-do', I bought this one at the same time as the first, so a while back! The first StormTalon can be found here, completed in Jun 2012.

This one is armed with Skyhammer Missles, for that lovely long range and S7 Heavy 3 goodness. Should ensure he takes out whatever anti-air the opposing force has on his arrival and then can get to grips with the support role. I've not bothered with magnetising the weapons as the first one has been, I envisage getting more use from a Skyhammer Armed Stormtalon. The Assault Cannon's are moveable side-to-side, here tracking where the pilot is looking.
The Techmarine pilot is painted to match the other Techmarines I have in the army already, grey arms and helmet but Mechanicus red armour. The wings are angled at 45 degrees and the landing gear has been extended to indicate it is either in the hover or coming to a hover. Again, I have glued the wings 'backward' to give a better more streamlined profile from above, more conventional wing like than the GW intended design.
The yellow missiles match the other missiles in the army, like the Centurion Sergeant chest weapon, Deathstorm Drop Pod and Whirlwind - visually linking it in with these.
The base is the only area I think I can easily improve with the next flyer, my flying bases so far are really simple and it seems like a waste of good basing to have them plain as they are.  Maybe a little scenery on the next flyer...

Finally, a shot with the first StormTalon, a nice pair of escorts to add some serious firepower to the army so far. And more importantly, another one off the to-do pile before Santa (hopefully) delivers yet more goodies!

Jan White Dwarf - What the Storm Talon should have looked like?!

Image from Games Workshop WD Jan 2013

Is it just me, or is the new Dark Talon/Nephilim Jetfighter, Dark Angels flyer what the Storm Talon should of looked like? I am seriously considering Dark Angel Allies to my Relictors on the strength of this aircraft! I love it!!!
Speaking of flyers, I am continuing my terrain series with the crashed Aquila Lander from the Battle of Macragge Boxset. WIP at the moment, but the hard work is done, just sand and paint the sand yet to do.

Right back to drooling (snotting) over pictures of the Jetfighter.... ahem, I mean back to working on some more terrain.  Lord Halfpenny and I were meant to have a battle today but Papa Nurgle has us both in his blighted clutches....

6th Edition Massive Flyer's Battle

For the release of 6th Edition on the 30th June, my local GW had planned a massive flyer's battle.

The objective was simple enough- for the Imperial Thunderhawk gunship to make it across the board- for the opposition, to take it down.

I had control of the T-hawk, along with my Ceastus Ram acting as escort.

The battle was pretty intense, with lots of players, all with various flyer's and vehicles/troops etc.

The new rules were pretty easy to take on board, and implement into the game.

The game finished with the T-hawk surviving, but only making it half way across the board (we limited the movement it could make) the issue was the weight in numbers of flyer's! however it was pretty cool to see various fighta jets getting blown out of the skies by combined fire from 7 talon's and the T-hawk!

Relictors StormTalon Gunship - Space Marine Ground Attack Aircraft

As soon as I saw the pictures in White Dwarf, I knew I wanted two of these (at least), I see them as the Space Marines Apache Gunship of the 41st millennium. Presenting my Relictor's StormTalon Gunship. Hope you like.
I used Badab Black wash to deliniate the glass before painting, however it kinda stained blotchy, but better than super glue clouding I guess - I fixed it in place with PVA glue.
I've magnetized the sponsons so I can change between Hvy Bolters or Lascannon pods, however the rear of the pod and side have gun parts and ammo (the ammo bins for the Hvy Bolter look okay on with the Lascannon barrels).  The second StormTalon will have SkyHammer Missile pods.
 With it's TL Hvy Bolters...
 With Lascannons
Rear shot showing landing gear stowed.
 Side shot.
Over view, you will note I've attached the wings backwards on purpose - looks more streamlined and aircraft like I think. I much prefer it to the reverse angle.
A dead tyranid head painted to match 6thDegree's Nids! Ha Ha
Just want to sing 'Ride of the Valkyries' really loud everytime I pick it up and make whooshing noises... ;)  Thanks for stopping by and reading.
